A exposition by Lauren Baker
You are on an excellent bush walk in the amazing Central South America rainforests to do some research on animals and plants. You have left your colleagues back at the camp so you could go and collect some fresh water for everyone. You hear a faint noise and it sounds like a baby whaling. You decide to go over and investigate. As you get further and further the sound gets louder. You feel a scratching on your leg and look down. A baby sloth! You pick up the very sad sloth. "Aww where's you mummy darling?" you say. You decide you should probably find its mother. You hear a louder whale. You see a the mother and pick her up. She is obviously injured. You let her baby clench on to her. You hear a chainsaw and you you are immediately furious. You run and see a man with a chainsaw to a tree. "Hey!" you shout. "Ma'am! I...It's not what it looks like!" He stammers. "Yes it is! You are illegally deforesting in a PROTECTED rainforest. Should we protect sloths?
Initially, we should protect sloths because every animal has feelings. Sloths losing their homes would be very hard for them to cope with. If we make yet ANOTHER animal become extinct we will begin to lose all the other animals one by one. Most deforestation is illegal in rain forests such as the Amazon Rainforest and other South American Rainforests. Many sloths live in the Amazon Rainforest which is one of the most deforested rainforests. Too many sloths are losing their homes because of deforestation. What if we lost all of our sloths? Sloths are found migrating across roads because they have lost their homes. Sloths have very long claws making it hard for them to walk on the ground. This is outrageous that they are having to cross roads where they could easily be hit by a car, and the tree loggers just leaving the helpless animals there upset and hurt.
Furthermore, many people believe that sloths are just stupid animals that sleep and eat. So why should we save them? This statement in 100% false. They happen to be very smart with plenty of stealth to help them stay away from their nasty predators and helping them stay alive. They can have algae on their backs which just adds to the camouflage. Their slowness also just happens to help them stay away from their predators! If they're hiding up against a tree, they move so slowly that it just looks like the wind is blowing it! Sloths are actually very smart when it comes to surviving.
Lastly, we should absolutely save sloths because every living thing has a right to save alive. Sloths have just as much of a right to be kept alive just as much as any other animal on earth. Many people believe that sloths should not be saved just because they are slow and lazy. This is NOT true. Turtles are slow but people still save them! Elephants, hippos, tortoises and many other animals are slow but we still save them. This should be the same for sloths! Sloths are the most gentle animals that many people know of so they must be saved!
In conclusion, it is positively necessary that we save sloths because they a one big part of the world and are just as equal as any other animal or human on earth.
